Egyptian Company for Marine Supplies and Works

The Egyptian Company for Maritime Supplies and Works was established as an Egyptian joint-stock company in 1962, and was transformed into a public sector company in 1991. It is affiliated with the Holding Company for Maritime Transport, which is a shareholders’ union established in 1994.

About the company

Headquartered at 2 El-Horreya Road – Alexandria, the company was established in 1962 pursuant to the decree of the President of the Republic No. 1422 of 1962. It was later converted in 1991, with the issuance of Law No. 203 of 1991, into a public-sector business company affiliated with the Holding Company for Maritime Transport. Within the framework of implementing the Egyptian government’s privatization program, the Union of Employee Shareholders in the Egyptian Company for Supplies and Maritime Works was established pursuant to the decision of the Chairman of the Capital Market Authority No. 122 of 1994. The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Holding Company for Maritime Transport, in its meeting dated 31/12/1997, approved the sale of 50.3% of the shares of the Egyptian Company for Supplies and Maritime Works, owned by the Holding Company, to the Union of Employee Shareholders in the Egyptian Company for Supplies and Maritime Works. As a result of this sale, the Holding Company’s ownership in the shares of the Egyptian Company for Supplies and Maritime Works decreased to less than 51%, which led to the company exiting the scope of the provisions of Law No. 203 of 1991 on public-sector business companies and becoming subject to the provisions of Law No. 159 of 1981 on joint-stock companies. Therefore, the Extraordinary General Assembly of the company was convened on 5/11/1998 and passed a resolution to convert the company from operating under the provisions of Law No. 203 of 1991 to operating under the provisions of Law No. 159 of 1981.
